Conversion from datacom, VSAM to DB2

One of the leading provider of property and casualty insurance for the motor carrier industry required to move from the old datacom and vsam databases to IBM DB2.The company has extensive and long experience and offers risk management, loss control, underwriting and claims services exclusively to the trucking industry.

This project was divided into 4 modules Driver Motor Violation system, Self Insured Reimbursements, Filings system, and Agent system.

The driver motor violation system consists of an online system and a daily batch to record driver information and motor violations and to order MVRS from D.A.C and to tie drivers to insured and claim base.

The self insured reimbursements is used to expedite the process of entering payments made by the insured with the retention amounts.

The filings system is an online system for entering and maintaining filing information with batch printing of selected filing certificates on pre-printed multi-part forms. filing information is transmitted to various regulatory entities either in paper form via us mail or in electronic format via ftp or the internet. in addition, all changes to a policy associated with a filing are recorded on a document called a filing abstract that lists each filing for a policy and its status.

The Agent system is used to view various information about the agencies that are registered with the great west casualty company including a list of all licensed agents at each agency.

Our Role

Since the systems are very old the client does not have the proper documentation and so we got involved with the architects to understand the design and requirement later on developed the system.

  • Prepare and execute the conversion plan and develop and test the new system to meet the requirements

  • Exiting data conversion form old platform to the new IBM platform and validating the correctness of the converted data.

  • Setting up the system and the process flow. Setting up the quality and performance during the conversion. Identified discrepancies between expected and actual results and provided documentation.
